Mazda recall will affect 90,000 vehicles in Japan and China

Either Japan’s auto industry has always had big problems and it is only now that people in America are paying close attention, or things like the recent Mazda recall and all of the trouble Toyota has been having are recent developments predicated by the need to find cheaper means of production to meet mounting production demands. Whatever the case, automakers everywhere should be thankful that the Mazda recall has not been connected with any accidents as yet. Automakers have taken their share of public image lumps lately, as Consumer Reports points out.

The car that is wildly popular in China and Japan is the Axela, or rather the Mazda 3. Agence France-Presse (AFP) reports that Mazda Motors, which is partially owned by Ford, will recall 35,181 Axela cars in Japan and about 54,000 Mazda 3 vehicles in China due to a problem with an oil hose. The defect is related to the oil hose being too close to a radiator shroud panel. Possible friction can cause the hose to develop leaks, if the ride is bumpy. These cars were produced from January 2006 to March 2009. While two complaints have been logged in this Mazda recall, neither of them have been accident-related. The Mazda recall vehicles in question are not available in the United States; however, Mazda indicates that it isn’t known at this time if equivalent models on the European market will be affected.

Toyota recalls have exceeded 8 million vehicles since late 2009. The AFP says that most of these have been related to brake and accelerator issues. The Toyota recall issues have brought executives before Congress and left the automaker’s reputation trashed. There are at least 97 lawsuits “seeking damages for injury or death linked to sudden acceleration” and an upward of 138 class actions related to loss of Toyota resale value caused by the Toyota recall. The U.S. Government wants to sue Toyota for $ 16.4 million on top of whatever damages those suits generate. Mazda should be thankful, since things could be worse than what they’re dealing with during this Mazda recall.

Toyota takes another hit with Lexus GX 460 Consumer Reports test

The Lexus GX 460 earned a rare “don’t buy” warning from Consumer Reports following performance testing by the magazine. If you thought about getting auto financing to buy one, bear in mind that the tests exposed a handling problem with the Lexus GX 460 that may cause a rollover of the SUV in everyday driving. The Consumer Reports test of the Lexus GX 460 is the latest black mark to Toyota Motor Corp’s battered reputation that began last year with braking and unintended acceleration problems.

The stability problems of the car began when the rear of the car broke away in what David Champion, the senior director of the Consumer Reports auto test division, said were “unusual turns.” The Lexus GX 460 skidded sideways through the turn before the SUV’s electronic stability control engaged. In an interview with the New York Times, Champion said “This is the first time we have seen it in an SUV with ESC,” referring to electronic stability control. Consumer Reports said it was “rare” for the magazine to “judge a vehicle’s performance not acceptable.”The last instance was with the 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Limited in 2001.

The rollover potential for the Lexus GX 460 goes beyond the test track. Mr. Champion told the New York Times that the Lexus GX 460 electronic stability control could fail in everyday driving. For example, speeding through a sharp curve on a highway off-ramp. The car, with a high center of gravity, might easily roll hitting a curb or soft shoulder. ” I wouldn’t want anyone else in it,” Champion suggested.

Toyota Celica Hot or Not

Toyota Celicas have been about for some time now.  Not actually as old as the Ford Pinto, but you know what I mean.  Celicas have always been famous for being the affordable sports car manufactured by Toyota.

But, whats so nice about this car?  When in comparison to other similar priced vehicles, their quickness is no where close to the performance that other cars can produce.

Not only that, Honda’s and Scion’s have much more aftermarket parts availiable for tricking out your ride.  So, once in a while you’ll see a Black Toyota Celica in a street race, but if your a real racer, you are not terrified of the Celica.

Modified Honda’s or Scion’s, even Chevy’s will blow away the Toyota.  But that doesn’t stop Toyota lovers from their Celicas.  Of course, they have their parts for modding, and they look pretty sweet, but when it comes down to racing, they just don’t cut it.

It’s not very common to see a Toyota Celica For Sale these days, it seems like they have all disappeared off the market.  Unforunately for the US, we get the shaft as the imported Celica’s can be quite beastly.

But, for americans, it seems that all the import cars get dumbed down when they come to America to comply with our sorry standards for safety, when in reality it is just stupid drivers that cause all the havoc.

Eighty-five year olds that can’t see fifteen feet in front of them should not be driving anymore, and this society allows for almost each elder to have a license, and then there are those that are too uncooperative to give up, even when they know they shouldn’t be driving.

The united states is chock-full of ignorance, if you were to take that all away, along with a harsher drivers license needs, all the really cool import cars that will pick up speed like no other might essentially be legal.

But, naturally, it just doesn’t work that way.  But, lets get back to Toyota Celicas.  If your actually interested by a Celica, it is not like they are bad cars in anyways, but when put next to other sports and racing cars nowadays, they just can’t compete.

Toyota makes great vehicles, you can nearly always rely on them that you are going to get a quality automobile that may last you a very long time, and they’ve proved that over the years.

All in all, I think Toyota Celicas are quality vehicles, driveable, and reliable, but if you plan on racing one of these babies, you need to prepare yourself to lose quite a bit, or be willing to put a lot of effort and time into modifications to fight against the heavy hitters.
